Poland – A Root of European History
22-01-2010
Poland – A country with a European history deeply rooted within its borders, a history that is still very much present today. Delight in the rich flora and fauna of this part of Europe, from mountains to plains, and explore cities rebuilt after the war, as well as historic towns and villages.
I first visited in 2010, starting with Czestochowa, home to the famous Jasna Góra Monastery and a pilgrimage site for many. I then explored Kraków, a city steeped in history, with its stunning medieval architecture and proximity to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Wrocław, with its charming Old Town and the famous "Dwarfs" scattered throughout the city, followed next. I also visited Poznań, a city of vibrant culture and history, as well as Zakopane, the mountain resort town at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. Finally, I visited Warsaw, the capital, a modern city with a rich history, notably rebuilt after World War II.
